NOT A HOTEL AOSHIMA 2.0 is the second phase of the Aoshima project, featuring two houses—CHILL 2.0 and COAST—designed by Shin Ohori of GENERAL DESIGN. Building upon the spirit of the original, the architecture harmonizes with Aoshima’s tropical landscape while refining the concept into a more sophisticated beach town.
CHILL 2.0 is a spacious upper-level maisonette with a 21-meter infinity pool and floating outdoor living area, offering elevated views of the horizon. COAST combines the strengths of “SURF” and “GARDEN,” with a private pool, lush garden, and a living room with 3.2-meter-high ceilings that create a deep sense of openness.
The project also introduces public spaces such as the LDK restaurant, skate park, basketball court, and open lawn area—creating a destination that evolves the Aoshima experience and invites guests to enjoy a richer, more layered stay.

Shimpei Fujihara
Architect
In designing this project, we approached it with deep respect for Shin Ohori of GENERAL DESIGN, who also worked on the original buildings.
CHILL 2.0 is a duplex where every bedroom begins the day with ocean views. From each room, you can step onto a terrace and access the infinity pool. A sunken outdoor sofa floating beside the pool invites you to enjoy the sea breeze and fireplace at night.
COAST, located on Aoshima’s prime oceanfront, lets you choose between a dip in the sea or your private pool, depending on your mood. The two-bedroom maisonette layout is perfect for families, and its 3.2-meter-high living room ceiling adds a sense of openness.
While preserving the natural ease that characterizes Ohori’s architecture, our goal was to take its essence one step further—refining the experience in a way that feels both seamless and elevated.

Nestled on a beach embraced by gentle waves and ocean breeze, NOT A HOTEL AOSHIMA is undergoing a remarkable transformation. This expansion project enhances the existing site into an even more captivating destination.
The new houses weave together the distinct personalities of previous icons—MASTERPIECE, CHILL, SURF, and GARDEN—into entirely new expressions of value and experience. At the same time, shared spaces are being reimagined: a new basketball court and skateboarding area are being added, while the restaurant and wedding venue are being upgraded to match the evolving landscape.
This is more than a renovation—it’s the beginning of something singular. The world of NOT A HOTEL is taking shape as a living, breathing “town” of its own, where architecture, nature, and lifestyle merge into a one-of-a-kind place to stay, gather, and connect.
