NOT A HOTEL ISHIGAKI EARTH is a one-of-a-kind villa located on a 9,500㎡ seaside property in the Miyara area of Ishigaki Island, Okinawa. Designed by renowned architect Sou Fujimoto, the circular structure is nestled into the natural landscape, with a green rooftop that blends seamlessly into the surroundings.
The villa’s indoor space spans approximately 975㎡, with a total area of about 1,500㎡ including its pool and terraces. It features four bedrooms that accommodate up to 10 guests, a sea-facing living and dining area, a sauna illuminated through a water basin, and a courtyard with a kids’ pool and firepit.
Named “EARTH” to evoke the idea of “second Earth” the villa offers a sensory experience that connects guests with the land through its use of local materials and climate-responsive design. It stands as NOT A HOTEL’s flagship model—an immersive sanctuary where architecture and nature coexist in harmony.

Tessey Suma
Brand Director
As NOT A HOTEL’s first flagship project, I approached this endeavor with dual responsibilities: as a Project Manager driven by structure and execution, and as a Brand Director carrying the vision of “sharing new value with the world.”
Our goal was to create a space like no other—something no one had ever experienced before. To deliver the unique feeling of “owning your own sea and sky,” we pursued uncompromising quality across every detail, from the architectural form to each piece of furniture. This is more than a building; it’s a meticulously crafted experience where design, nature, and emotion are seamlessly intertwined.
Gen Sugiyama
MEP Engineering Manager
To achieve the flagship quality expected of NOT A HOTEL, we approached the project by layering life cycle and MEP engineering management perspectives. Carefully accounting for the island’s unique climate, humidity, and salt exposure, we designed every invisible element—HVAC, ventilation, drainage—without compromise. Believing that lasting comfort enhances architectural value, we rigorously evaluated ease of maintenance and operational functionality. From daily use to long-term performance, we pursued “enduring comfort” down to the smallest detail of every system, ensuring the space remains at its best in every moment.
