NOT A HOTEL NASU CAVE, the third residence in the NASU series following MASTERPIECE and THINK, was designed by Makoto Tanijiri and Ai Yoshida of SUPPOSE DESIGN OFFICE. Inspired by the theme of a “cave for restoration,” the structure is embedded into the natural terrain, responding to the grandeur of the Nasu landscape.
With over 480㎡ of total space including a terrace, the house accommodates up to six guests and features a private pool, sauna, and onsen. The textures of concrete and Mortex blend seamlessly with the surroundings, intentionally designed to evolve and become part of nature over time.
Light filtering into shadows, the reflection of sky on water, and flickering fire on the terrace—all elements of nature are intricately woven into the design, creating a tranquil yet profoundly rich atmosphere. This architecture dissolves the boundary between nature and manmade, restoring one’s senses through serene immersion.

“NOT A HOTEL NASU CAVE,” the third architectural work by SUPPOSE DESIGN OFFICE, brings a completely new concept and design to the same landscape as MASTERPIECE and THINK.
From project management to the smallest design details, every element was carefully studied to create a view and experience found nowhere else.
A defining feature is the seamless use of Mortex, a plaster finish applied continuously across walls, floors, and ceilings. To capture the material’s finest texture and expression, we held countless discussions with designers and builders, pursuing the perfect finish.
The result is a space that balances character, precision, and quality—an architecture that blends naturally with its surroundings and grows richer with time. The process of pursuing this ideal with our team remains a deeply meaningful experience.
